Hello visitor,
I’m Saloni Mahajan, an Interior Designer, artist, and zine-maker who lives in the intersection of thoughtful design and whimsical creativity. I create; furniture, spaces, objects, artworks, illustrations, textiles and more each fuelled by my curiosity to challenge the material.
A graduate of Interior Design from CEPT University, Ahmedabad, with University-level distinguished student award 2021-2022. Following my time at School of Interior Design, I’ve had the privilege of working with my seniors, peers and renowned architects of India. In 2021-2022, I collaborated with By Salt and Compartment S4, where I contributed to a variety of interior and design projects. In 2022, I freelanced in Ahmedabad, where I had the opportunity to design the office for Birds of Paradyes, an experience that challenged me to bring vibrant creativity and practicality together in a meaningful way.
After working independently for a while, I realised the need to refine my design and management skills. During two transformative years at Sameep Padora and Associates (sP+a) in Mumbai, I worked on projects that seamlessly balanced cultural storytelling and technical precision. This experience sharpened my skills in design development, client and vendor coordination, team management, and the nuances of construction documentation. It also taught me the value of collaboration, leadership, and the confidence to present ideas with clarity.
Currently, I’m working on Body of Work, a contemporary furniture collection where traditional art forms meet my distinct visual art style. It’s a personal exploration of materiality, craftsmanship, and storytelling through functional objects.
Beyond interiors and furniture, art has been my most intuitive form of self-expression. My zines are miniature worlds- playful experiments where alternate realities and metaphors come to life. Over the years, I’ve self-published eight zines, exploring themes like the masks we wear, celestial relationships, and the ebb and flow of creativity. These projects have led me to conduct workshops, exhibit my work, and connect with audiences who share my fascination for thoughtful, unconventional narratives.
Whether designing a space, crafting a product, or creating a piece of art, I aim to evoke curiosity, surprise, and a sense of connection. I believe design exists in the act of play, frolicking and “what-ifs”. The interplay of light, reflection, material, and texture fascinates me, and I strive to integrate these elements into every project I undertake.
If you’re here to collaborate, explore, or simply peek into my world, welcome. Let’s create something!
